The rebuilt Stewarts Ferry Pike bridge over Suggs Creek is open, Wilson County says, ending a closure that began Jan. 5. Eastover Bridge work starts next.
Stewarts Ferry Pike is open again at Suggs Creek. The rebuilt bridge “is complete and is now OPEN,” the Wilson County Road Commission said in an update dated Oct. 13 on the county’s bridge closure notices page.
The road had been closed at the bridge since Jan. 5, about nine months. The county first expected the rebuild to be finished by the end of June, weather permitting, its December 2025 notice said.
Why the bridge closed
The federal government directed the Tennessee Department of Transportation to close a number of Wilson County bridges under updated inspection standards, the county said in a public service announcement. The closed bridges were judged beyond repair under the new guidelines, so each one is being replaced instead of repaired.
The Road Commission normally repairs bridges itself from a TDOT list, the county said. It lists the Patton Hollow, Northern Road and Philadelphia Road bridges among its recent in-house repairs.
How the rebuild went
The county posted progress updates through the year:
| Update | What the county reported |
|---|---|
| December 2025 | Closure signs going up; road to close Jan. 5 |
| April 28 | Construction underway, on schedule for July |
| June 4 | Beams to be set the following week, weather permitting |
| July 15 | Beams in place; crews framing for the deck |
| Aug. 25 | Deck poured, with a 27-day curing period |
| Sept. 28 | Paving complete; railing, guardrails and striping next, then a state inspection |
| Oct. 13 | Bridge complete and open |
The other closed bridges
Three more county bridges are still waiting, according to the same page:
- Eastover Bridge: the contract has been awarded and the preconstruction meeting was held. The contractor expects to start work in early November, and demolition may start slightly earlier. The county estimated the job at about a year once construction begins.
- McCrary Bridge: the design is complete, but a right-of-way issue was still being resolved in April. The project is tied to a development, so no start date had been set.
- Beasley’s Bend Bridge: being rebuilt with a 2023 grant that covers the full cost, with a start date listed as 2029.
