The 2026 rates

  • City of Mt. Juliet: 28 cents per $100 of assessed value for 2026. The city has levied a property tax since 2011; it was first set aside for the Fire Department and now goes into the general fund, which pays for fire and EMS among other services.
  • Wilson County: after the county’s recent reappraisal, the county’s certified rate is $1.1657 per $100 of taxable property, according to the city. Tennessee law sets a certified rate to raise about the same revenue from existing property as the year before, not counting new growth. The county rate on your bill is set by the Wilson County Commission; the trustee’s bill shows the rate actually charged.

How the bill is figured

Tennessee assesses residential property at 25% of its appraised value, and the rate is applied to each $100 of that assessed value, as the state Comptroller explains on its how to figure your tax bill page. A home appraised at $400,000 is assessed at $100,000, or 1,000 units of $100.

A worked example

Bar chart of 2026 property tax on a $400,000 Mount Juliet home: City of Mt. Juliet $280, Wilson County at the certified rate $1,165.70, total $1,445.70

The county figure uses the certified rate published by the city. Your own bill depends on your appraisal and on any exemption, relief or freeze you qualify for.

How to pay

City bill: online through the city’s Citisen payment portal (card or eCheck, with a convenience fee), by phone at 833-591-7172 with your receipt number and tax year, by mail to The City of Mt. Juliet, P.O. Box 618, Mt. Juliet, TN 37121, or in person at City Hall Finance, 2425 N. Mt. Juliet Road. Delinquent city taxes must be paid five working days before current taxes can be paid online.

County bill: online through the trustee’s Citisen portal (2.5% card fee, $1.25 eCheck fee), by phone at 888-382-8422, by mail to P.O. Box 865, Lebanon, TN 37088 (checks to Kenneth Hackett, Wilson County Trustee), in person at the courthouse, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or at any Wilson County branch of Wilson Bank & Trust or Pinnacle Bank from October through February, with the bill and no partial payments.

How to appeal

Each year, usually in early May, the assessor mails an assessment change notice to every owner whose value went up or down. The county says it is not a bill. If you think the appraised value is wrong, or out of line with similar homes, call the assessor’s office first at 615-444-8661. You can then appear before the Wilson County Board of Equalization, according to the county’s assessment change notice page. The tax rate and the tax amount cannot be appealed; only the value can. Ask the assessor for this year’s board dates.

To change the mailing address on your bills, contact the assessor; the city and the trustee cannot change it.

Relief and the senior tax freeze

  • Tax relief: a state program, run by both the city and the county, for homeowners 65 or older, disabled homeowners and totally and permanently disabled veterans. Applicants must requalify every year. The city lists an income limit of $36,370 for 2024 for older and disabled homeowners; disabled veterans have no income limit. The city’s maximum relief is $10 for older or disabled homeowners and $63 for disabled veterans or their widows or widowers.
  • Tax freeze: the Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners adopted the state’s freeze for homeowners 65 and older in 2025, and Wilson County has adopted one for county taxes. Call the city Finance Department or the trustee (option 2).

What this means for you

  • Expect two bills in October: one from the city, one from the trustee.
  • Pay both by the last day of February to avoid penalty and interest.
  • Watch for the May assessment notice; that is the time to question your value.
  • Turning 65? Ask about the freeze for both bills.
