Who to call

  • MTE 24/7 member support: 877-777-9020
  • Trees near power lines: MTE vegetation management, 877-414-7685

Report an outage

MTE lists three ways to report:

  1. Call the automated outage line, 877-777-0215. MTE’s outage questions page also lists 1-877-777-9111 as its automated line; enter your account number, meter number or the phone number on your account, or say your address.
  2. Call 24/7 member support at 877-777-9020.
  3. Use the myMTE app or web portal, which also shows outage updates.

Before you call, MTE asks members to check the breakers or fuses to rule out a problem inside the home. If the meter box or wires look damaged, it says to call a certified electrician first, because repairs may be needed before MTE can reconnect. Streetlight and outdoor light outages go through MTE’s light outage form.

Outage maps

Which utility serves my address?

Use MTE’s interactive service map to confirm. If your bill comes from Nashville Electric Service (NES) instead, report outages at 615-234-0000 (have your meter number or account phone number ready), text OUT to 637797, or use the NES outage map; NES customer relations is 615-736-6900.

Get alerts

MTE says the best way to stay informed is to use both its alerts and local emergency alerts:

  • Register in the myMTE app or web portal, turn on text notifications and choose outage alerts under Manage Notifications.
  • Keep your phone number and email current with MTE so it can reach you during a storm.
  • Sign up for the city’s MJAlert notifications.

How restoration works

MTE says crews start work as soon as an outage is detected, and that after a storm it can pinpoint damaged transmission lines, substations and main distribution circuits. If your home is out while neighbors have power, MTE says to report it right away, because it may be an isolated problem the system has not flagged.

Food safety during an outage

MTE passes on USDA guidance:

  • A full freezer stays cold about two days; a half-full freezer about one day.
  • An unopened refrigerator keeps food cold about four hours.
  • When power returns, the refrigerator should be at or below 40 degrees and the freezer at or below zero.

Trees, lines and digging

  • Trees near power lines: MTE’s vegetation management team, certified arborists, handles pruning around lines; call 877-414-7685 or email VegetationMgmt@mte.com.
  • Streetlights: report a dark streetlight or outdoor light on MTE’s light outage form.
  • Digging: MTE points to Tennessee 811 (TN One Call) to have underground lines marked before you dig.

What this means for you

  • Save 877-777-0215 in your phone before the next storm.
  • Turn on myMTE outage alerts.
  • Check your breakers first; then report.
